The tech space has a lot of opportunities for skilled talents worldwide and deciding on what path to transition into can be quite challenging. It is always advisable to do a comprehensive research on the technical and non-technical roles in the tech industry. You do not have to be a programmer or developer to be a tech bro, you do not need to know javascript or python or write your first "Hello world!" with c# to earn your first dollars in tech or work in any of the FAANG companies. On completion of your research, a roadmap should be developed to serve as a guide in achieving your goals. A roadmap is a plan or strategy for how to achieve a particular goal or goals. A roadmap can be straight forward or linear and non-linear.
The first step involved in building a roadmap is by evaluating where you are now and asking yourself some of these questions.
What do people say i am good at?
What aspects of my course do i enjoy the most?
What aspects of my course do i enjoy the least?
What motivates me? e.t.c
Asking these questions help you understand yourself and your abilities. After that , the next step is to understand your strengths and skills. This step involves identifying those skills and group them into developed skills and yet to improve skills. Map out a plan on how to improve your skills and how those skills can help make you better. Always try to reach out to professionals in the field you are trying to transition into, communicate with them and ask questions. Putting yourself out there and increasing your online presence on social media platforms, joining tech communities and trying as much as possible to work on projects ,no matter how little, helps you improve and helps make you employable.
I intend to put in more effort in my field and always learn to ask questions to mentors when i have a blocker. Joining more communities and putting myself out there, via posting more about what i do on social media platforms and making new connections. For more info on designing your tech roadmap visit here.
